First time on my own with Ozzy cousins(who rejoice in living in Wye River on the Great Ocean Road) and then a couple of years later with my young teenage 'kids'. Memories of chilled misty water and imagined sightings.(they still talk of it)
Also.....evening walks in wooded hillside behind Kennett to observe glow worm displays.......happy days! Thanks for the memory jolt..tim.lxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02112184694425942889noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-4782035567519566432014-01-09T00:14:04.687+11:002014-01-09T00:14:04.687+11:00You're a step ahead of me. And they didn't for our tour either - it's just that the croc was so small it looked like a toy rubber one!! Not quite what I had in mind ... But once I'd PAID to see one, the unassisted sightings came thick and fast! Maybe paying for it just takes the pressure off?? Seeing wild animals at close range in the wild is one of the great joys in my life. To me, although they are necessary to preserve some species, zoos are prisons just making me infinitely sad for the inmates
Paying to get a sighting doesn't cut it with me either, except perhaps with dangerous carnivores in Africa which is only possible in my dreams anyway.

Great photos and perfect lighting on the cocky.Arijahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03720793296992474762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-52848080930674728842013-12-16T22:03:15.204+11:002013-12-16T22:03:15.204+11:00Hari Om

My own personal one on one sighting with platypus came after having much earlier been on a paid tour. That tour had been very successful and was certainly enjoyable; but when I got spooked by movement on the waterside when out walking alone and realised it was platypus burrowing it was wwaaaayyyyy better!! It was a different state and a decade later - but wwaaaaayyyyyy better... &*> YAM xxYamini MacLeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18383916589808462620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-77629707378909065842013-12-16T20:23:00.645+11:002013-12-16T20:23:00.645+11:00When the animal is wild, I think its better than a...When the animal is wild, I think its better than a zoo view - but its on the same spectrum.

The best whales we have ever seen have come as a surprise.

SMStewart Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04622420206244603688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-40873266791917008302013-12-16T20:11:49.122+11:002013-12-16T20:11:49.122+11:00I agree about the impact of the financial transact...I agree about the impact of the financial transaction - it changes the nature of things. It may even be as simple as "organisation" - if someone showed it to you it's not "your" platypus - the effect is akin to seeing one in a zoo.
I saw an Osprey on Bassenthwaite the year before they set up the observatory. It was a distant view - sitting on a post _ but I was the only one who saw it. I've never been tempted to go to the observatory. Ditto - I saw a whale on the way across Table Bay to Robben Island -a fleeting glimpse, and although I will almost certainly go organised whale watching at some stage, I'm sure this glimpse is the one I will remember.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15362048212658429544noreply@blogger.com
