One of the American Indian tribes over here in the U.S. (Aussies would probably use the term "aboriginal tribe") has an old saying that "only the rocks live forever." When I was a child I loved how that saying captured the brevity of human life versus the agelessness of the earth. As I have grown older I have come to realize that the saying is not entirely accurate, because even rocks will eventually disappear after millions of years of erosion from rain, wind, etc. However, this realization only strengthens the sense of wonder I feel when thinking of the divide between human perception of time and nature's reality of time.

By the way, I love the pictures. Especially the gulls, the flowers around they hay, and the view looking out from the bunker.JDShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05360470068860788678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-6849929530449876782011-11-27T08:02:51.512+11:002011-11-27T08:02:51.512+11:00A wonderful post Stewart.. and heres me thinking i...A wonderful post Stewart.. and heres me thinking it's only my commute home from Manchester that's a nightmare.

A quick question have you or are you thinkig of writing a book?
You have the talent for it..theconstantwalkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06243294919370970037noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-68095354697699046782011-11-26T21:45:17.966+11:002011-11-26T21:45:17.966+11:00Hi Stewart, thanks you for visiting and leaving yo...Hi Stewart, thanks you for visiting and leaving your comment on my post. I like the one with the hay bale but it will not enlarge. Even small, it is good.

As for your musings, yes, change is the only constant! I, too, wonder about all the climate change and our way of measuring it. I am sure that the things we do to this earth have an affect on it, but I also think that even a span of 1000 years is small in geologic time. All this change is hard to get use to and even harder as one grows older. Perhaps that is why we die--because we cannot adapt. I think our children are adapting to this new digital and computer age and many of us would be left behind if we lived long enough to see what was coming in the next 100 years. I think of how much the world has changed since my Grandmother was born, and how much it has changed since I was.

I am so used to computers now I cannot imagine living without one, yet I use to long to be a pioneer and live a simple life out on the prairie. I guess I have changed also.Kathie Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10377224759599266209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-66221737521538436142011-11-19T15:03:24.634+11:002011-11-19T15:03:24.634+11:00WOW Stewart! Each age has its own perspective on the flow of time. I envy the kids because for them it is sooo slow - remembering the summers when I was a kid - because everything is new, nothing ever old and stale. Also life expectancy changes your view of time. Not long ago, when people died fairly young, a woman was a matron by age 30, and today we pretend to be young forever. Anyway thanks for sharing your beautiful thought-provoking essay.Hilke Brederhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18357741278362930033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-32201109076301401802011-11-18T08:57:06.292+11:002011-11-18T08:57:06.292+11:00wonderful way with words you ahve Stewart, and I l...wonderful way with words you ahve Stewart, and I love that photo of the two seagulls fence-sittingKelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18425317942978557478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7057604927035176441.post-11503212840548880472011-11-18T02:59:35.020+11:002011-11-18T02:59:35.020+11:00A very deep and thought provoking post with great ...A very deep and thought provoking post with great images - as always.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11900580844994732526noreply@blogger.com
